Have you ever experienced the joy of working in a fast-food restaurant in a shopping mall food-court during the holidays? Well I have and do on an almost daily basis. Don’t be envious.
This evening, as I was taking out the trash to the dumpster, I noticed a frazzled looking older-lady from Bath and Body Works struggling to load her store’s trash into the garbage compactor. I would guess her age to be at least 65. When I saw her, I thought to myself: Something is wrong with this picture. This lady is old enough to be my grandmother, yet she is out here at 9:30 in the evening in the dangerous parking lot of RiverGate mall, by herself, struggling with all of her might to load her store’s heavy trash items into a garbage compactor. I helped her with her last bag of trash and then headed back to work, but that experience weighed heavily on my mind, and as hard as I tried, I couldn’t stop thinking about that poor lady.
Seeing this occur brought back to my memory the old adage, “Life isn’t fair.” The phrase used to be just something my parents would tell me out of frustration when I was complaining, but now I realize this concept to be a fact of life that we all must deal with. Life isn’t fair. In fact, anyone who lives for any length of time will inevitably confront pain, suffering, fear, heartache, rejection, and hurt.
But you know what? You and I can make life a little better for someone each day. We can offer those positive words someone needs to hear, we can offer a helping hand to someone in need, and we can share a warm smile to that person who hasn’t smiled himself in weeks. Lets help each other out here guys. Be the change. Go out and GIVE love without restraint or inhibition. Make living life on this Earth a little easier for someone else and you will find reward and fulfillment in your own life too.
The aim of our charge is love that issues from a pure heart and a good conscience and a sincere faith.

Aw Jonathan. This is touching. Seriously. You’re really good at the whole sharing-a-warm-smile thing. All I have to say is Word. Word to your mother.
