Well, if you’re interesting in knowing who I plan to cast my vote for on “Super Tuesday” of the primary elections, it is most certainly former Arkansas Governor and Baptist Minister Mike Huckabee. This guy is awesome. If you look at this record as Governor he was able to significantly improve the quality of education for students in his state, offered a $90 million tax relief package to Arkansas families, and dramatically improved the standards of health care. Furthermore, he offers a great plan to jumpstart the economy and save American families money with his “fair tax plan” which would eliminate the IRS (Hallelujah!). Perhaps what I find most impressive about this candidate, and a quality that is desperately needed in America today, is his straightforward and Christian values-based approach to issues of Faith and Politics. On the issue of “faith” Governor Huckabee had this to say:
My faith is my life – it defines me. My faith doesn’t influence my decisions, it drives them. For example, when it comes to the environment, I believe in being a good steward of the earth. I don’t separate my faith from my personal and professional lives.
Real faith makes us humble and mindful, not of the faults of others, but of our own. It makes us less judgmental, as we see others with the same frailties we have. Faith gives us strength in the face of injustice and motivates us to do our best for “the least of us.”
Our nation was birthed in a spirit of faith – not a prescriptive one telling us whether to believe, but one acknowledging that a providence pervades our world.
And here’s the other cool thing- Mike Huckabee has shown that the message matters more than the money! He has a 12 point lead in Iowa, and has only spend $400,000 there to date, compared to Mitt Romney’s $12 million! Now that is impressive. This is a candidate with a lot to offer our country and he will have my avid support and my vote this election season!
Johnny, I think Huckabee is just another George W. Bush. but what do I know anyways?
