“In a bastion of the religious right, Barack Obama is talking up the importance of volunteerism, part of a flag-draped week focused on God, country, service, veterans and freedom — and on cribbing themes from the successful campaigns of President Bush.”
- Excerpt from recent MSNBC article
In an election where presumed Republican nominee, John McCain, is having a hard time courting votes from certain hard-headed evangelicals such as James Dobson, (a person whom I once deeply respected but now am very frustrated with in light of his recent comments saying that he may just not cast a vote this election) Barack Obama sees this as a prime opportunity to solicit votes from that all-important base of values-voters. And he is doing just that by going across the country touting his approach to getting religious charities more involved in government anti-poverty programs, even going so far as visiting Colorado Springs (home of Dobson’s “Focus On The Family”) where a religious political action committee supporting Obama has a new pro-Obama radio aid to highlight his faith — and is airing it on Christian radio in Colorado Springs among other places.
Forgive me for sounding cynical but let’s cut the crap here folks. Anyone with half a brain should be able to see right through this ploy. I mean this is the same person that tried to say that the Sermon on the Mount justifies same sex unions. Yes, thats right- it’s biblical! Didn’t ya know? And sorry if I sound like I’m beating a dead horse but I would just like to take this opportunity to remind us all that Obama remains unapologetically in favor of legalized abortion. Call it a smoke screen issue all you want to, but the next President will undoubtedly be appointing several supreme court justices.
It’s amazing to me how in such a pivotal time in our world so many Americans would go running blindly towards the empty promises of such an unqualified individual, who in contrast to his opponent can’t pull from any real experience to speak of (3 lousy years in the Senate), wants to be commander in chief of our armed forces but never spent a day himself in the service, and still cannot offer a great deal of specificity as to what his glorified ‘plans’ are for renewing America.
I try to use discretion when addressing matters of politics on here, and keep it separate from discussions on matters of faith. And I would never want to say a Christian should vote for a specific candidate or a specific party- God is neither Democrat or Republican. But I would encourage us all to take a good look at the issues at hand this election season and do our best to become educated citizens that elect responsible leaders.
You know my stance. Now go out and find the opposing view and decide for yourself.
I’m with you!
good title!
Honey child!!! I am right with you there!! And anyone who thinks we can become “friends” with the likes of Iran, Iraq and Saudi leaders…I mean come on!!! Idealistic in a non-reality much? Now, I agree there are parts of McCain that aren’t pretty. But in a time of war, I want someone in office who not only served in the military, but has WAR TIME experience. Not someone who literally only spent 17 days actually in the Senate meetings. That’s right 17 days out of 3 years, he was actually in office!! The rest of the time, he’s been working on this campaign! Think about that!!!
